Photography – Dundee Winter Light Night

Well it’s that time of year, the Christmas Lights are due to be turned on to pomp and ceremony in Dundee City Centre.  This brings with it the inherent opportunities to get some great photography of the all the characters at the event.

The event was photographed by me, not for work but for personal use.

This year Dundee held it’s Winter Light Night event on the 27th of November, in case you wondering, the nomenclature was changed to Winter Light Night from Christmas Lights for fear of offending some people.

Though that did not stop the crowds from thronging the City Centre to catch the parade of characters through the streets of Dundee, to The Caird Hall in the City Square.

I had photographed the parade numerous times before, so this year thought I would visit the other venues where other events were being held.  Such as Dundee, Sensation Science Centre where a stage was setup for various acts, and beside the Overgate shopping centre to see what photographic opportunities arose.

I was not to be disappointed with acts such as No Fit State Circus and the band Grousebeater sound System.  Wandering back to wards the City Centre I ran into stilt walker dressed as the Christmas Fairy, blowing glitter about everywhere and lit with fairy lights.

I stumbled across an art installation by Holly Keasy, and the photographs do not do it justice as the constant subtle changes in colour can not be seen, as a still photograph captures but a fleeting moment of the constant changing of colours.
