SWPP – CSMG – Photography Meet Stirling

Photography Meet Stirling

Today marked the first gathering of the year for the SWPP’s Central Scotland Meeting Group.  A bunch of photographers who get together once in a while for a day of shooting and socialising and generally having a good time.  This meet up had been arranged for Stirling and had quite a few attendees, we met by the railway station and decided where to go Alan Hutchison is from Stirling so we let him pick.  We spent most of the day by a bridge with lunch at a little cafe, which was almost full after we descended on it for lunch.

Most of the people there were wanting to shoot with off camera flash, I had to be different and had decided I would not be using any flash at all for the day, wish I had used flash now though.

As per usual we took turns posing the model who had come along for the day and shooting, whilst if not shooting you were constantly chatting away to the others obviously mostly about photography but some other stuff too.

We started by a glass lift shaft, which was unfortunately out of order, which allowed the disabled and busy mums with pushchairs to access the bridge.

This image was shot with Shannon the model for the day standing near the glass doors of the elevator, with the lower image being a straight black and white conversion.

Next we moved to a sandstone wall which formed part of the structure of the stairs up to the bridge.  Again shot using natural light, but the lower image has had the detail in the sandstone enhanced during post processing of the image.

After lunch it was back to the bridge, this time using the stairs as a prop, I had Shannon lean against the handrail for this shot.

Finally we moved up to the pavement on the bridge span,  the main structure of the bridge is made from glass and steel so certainly makes for some good effects, this is where I wish I had used off camera flash, as I was a little jealous of the images some of the others were getting using it here. I will know better next time and will take my OCF gear with me!

Another fun day of socialising and photography, thanks to Matt Cain for organising the day and Shannon for being our model for the day.  That is about it for the days photography, let me know what you think in the comments below.
