Mentor Me on Steroids – Rolling with the Big Dog

MMoS (Mentor Me on Steroids) – Rolling with The Big Dog

Earlier this year I decided to join an exclusive group of other photographers who are furthering their knowledge of photography by enrolling on a continuous course called Mentor Me On Steroids (MMoS) which is run by a photographer by the name of Damian McGillicuddy (http://www.art4artssake.co.uk/).  Luckily for me another photographer from Scotland, Matt Cain is in the same group of 6 as me so we take alternate turns in driving down. The logo above was created for our T-shirts.  We came up with the design between us, we wear them for the days training.

What does this course entail, apart from travelling to Warrington from Dundee approximately every 8 weeks, the day consists of a critique of your images in the morning.  It still amazes me how spot on Damian was in what he said about the first set of images I took down for critique (a selection of 10 images of your typical work).  He quickly identified which were my bread & butter images, and which were the ones I would prefer to be selling.  The afternoon is spent on practical work where Damian shows you a lighting set-up and explains why it is set-up  the way it is with the added bonus you get to shoot the model (see below)

What happens next, well you are given homework to complete, which usually entails taking what you have learnt and using it on a commission or two.  Another part of the homework for the next session of MMoS, involved shooting a human sized object and a cup sized object at every focal length and major aperture, with every lens owned.  Printing out contact sheets of the results for your reference, and to create 10 prints of the images from your homework to take in for the next sessions critique.

I will be adding another post soon of images from my homework for the second session, as always thanks for looking and comments are more than welcome.
