Mentor Me on steroids – Session 5
Time for you to find out about my latest exploits on my quest for photographic knowledge and my training with Photo Yoda, Damian McGillicuddy and his Mentor Me on Steroids training program. This session was delay by approximately one month due to conflicts in diaries, at least we had more time to get the homework completed. I was travelling on my own to this Mentor Me on Steroids Session as Matt couldn’t make the new date that had been arranged (he was going to see Spamalot for his birthday – Best Wishes Matt).
After the usual greetings to and from other members of my Mentor Me on Steroids group it was down to the critique of our homework images. I was pleased to hear that Damian thought my lighting placement had improved dramatically and in his words was “Very precise”. This was amongst other commits and I am glad the number of bad comments is dwindling.
The afternoon session started with Damian showing how a shot is built, explaining the why and how along the way. Next it was our turn to build a shot from scratch up to a finished image, with each of us finding a location and then building the lighting to how we wanted it to be. Of course I threw a spanner in the works as I wanted to shoot something different to everyone else which required a completely different setup. I wanted to pump a load of light from behind the ever lovely Charlie to introduce some lens false into the final image. this required a different modifier and Damian who shot off and came back with what I wanted to create the images shown below. After a little direction Charlie was holding a pose I liked and I managed to get the shots I had in my head.
