Photography Dundee – RAF Leuchars Airshow 2009

What a difference to this time last year.  Instead of a wet, gloomy miserable day for RAF Leuchars Airshow, we were treated to glorious sunshine for the entire day.  Though this in itself brings difficulties for photography, much prefer a bright semi-overcast day to full sun.

The weather meant that there were many more aerial displays this year, so much more chance of some decent photography.  I had my wife and our two boys with me this year too.  The highlights of the show, for me anyway, were the last airworthy Vulcan, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and of course the Red Arrows display team.

The Vulcan is a fabulous aircraft and is only kept flying by donations from the public and other individuals, if you would like to help you can do so at Vulcan to the Sky, where you can also find out more information about it.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is always a big crowd drawer, not sup rising as these were the planes that helped make Britain what it is today, more information on The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight can be found  at The RAF BBMF page.

The Red Arrows, another big crowd pleaser not only Britain’s, but also known as one of the world’s foremost aerial display team.  As usual they put on a stellar display of their aerobatics.

Other displays of note included the Polish Mig 29, which when its airfare caught the light, made it look almost silver, the wing walkers always wow and of course the F-16 was excellent as usual.  There was much more to please the crowds and the day was enjoyable by all.
