Environmental Portraiture – Highly Commended – August 2012 – SWPP Competition

Environmental Portraiture

SWPP Monthly Image competition – Environmental Portraiture

Well the results are in for another month, and yet again the image below has achieved a Highly Commended in Environmental Portraiture.  This is the second image from my Red riding hood shoot that I have entered into the competition and is also the second image to gain a Highly commended merit from the judges.

This image was part of the same shoot as my last highly commended merit. The location is the same, a wooden bridge over a burn in Alyth Den, I will most certainly be hoping to use this location again in the future.

The lights were in the same position and on the same settings, just my position and focal length have changed.  As per usual the lights were triggered via my ever faithful Pocket Wizards.  For those interested the key light was a 580 Ex in a DMLS 36″ Multi modifier, with a 430 Ex II in my trusty 19″ DMLS Beauty dish adding fill from the rear.  Camera used is my Canon EOS 7D with EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS USM lens.

To let you in on a little secret the mist was added in postproduction as I thought the original image lacked the atmosphere that I was after.

The Hoodlet was knitted by my wife and contains 8 100g balls of wool and took around 8 weeks to knit when she managed to get some spare time.  The hand basket, is not a hand basket, but a modified wine carrier found in a local charity shop (see main red riding hood post for explanation). The basket was filled with various items purchased, bread, cheese, butter etc., for the dual use of props and dinner for my assistant Matt Cain and myself.

Thats about all for this post, and as usual comments are welcome below.
