Photography by Gareth Williams LSWPP – Professional Portrait Photographer
If you are on this page, then i assume it is safe to say that you would like to find out a little more about me and my photography, if this is the case then your are certainly in the right place.
You already know my name, and some general stuff about me from other pages on this website, so what else is there to know, how about some background information relating to my interest in photography.
Here goes, I first became interested in photography at quite a young age, I had always liked looking at pictures but my interest really started on my 8th birthday when I received a little 110 camera as a present. I had a lot of fun with that camera, though my parents didn’t like the cost of processing all the film that I managed to get through. A few years later, after saving up pocket money for ages, I purchased my first 35mm camera, and slowly worked my way up to an SLR, during my teenage years my interest did dwindle as other things took over my life, and yes girls were one of the most important things then.
From that point on and for various other reasons, such as work, other hobbies etc. I didn’t take my photography as serious as I had. That is until the year 2000 when I took part in a charity trek across the Sinai desert, it was during that trek that my interest in photography was re-awakened. How could it not be in such a stunning location, and to think all i took with me was a cheap point and shoot camera. On my return I purchased a bridge camera fro Fuji and took photography up as a hobby once again, this quenched my thirst for photography until my eldest son came along in 2004, shortly after he was born I purchased my first DSLR, a Canon 350D to capture images of him growing up.
My professional career started in 2008 when I also joined the SWPP (Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers), I entered a set of 20 images into their qualification panel and was granted my Licentiate in the December.
If you have read some of posts on the blog section of this website, you will know that I am always striving to improve my photographic craft and firmly believe in continual development. In July last year I attended my first ever session on a training programme called MMoS (Mentor Me on Steroids), run by a Grand Master of the SWPP, Damian Mc Gillicuddy, if you want to be the best, you have to learn from the best.
Via this training programme I hope to be able to gain the next level of qualification, which is to become an Associate of the SWPP, hopefully within the next two years.
That brings you up to date on my photographic interests and career, I hope i have not bored you too much and thank you for visiting my website.
